Database Administrator

JOB SUMMARY:

This role leads to management of the development database engineering team.

These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, Leading the project teams on database related issues, effectively manage workloads and schedules with other departments; involve in the discussion of team tactics and department goals; participate in the review of development database designs and long-term database application planning; and leads the team in the development and implementation of database procedures to insure reliability and meet the defined DBA coding standards.

This individual will oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the complex database systems including data modeling, access, security, performance, and documentation. This individual will work closely with Lead Database Administrator(s) in defining policies and procedures for the team as well as providing high level of customer service to clients and internal teams.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Leads the coordination of schema changes, code releases, and supporting performance enhancements in the development database environments.

Oversees the designs of logical and physical databases

• Involved in the reviews of database design updates and changes to inspect the effects to the physical database and architecture and determine the impact on other systems.
• Monitoring updates and upgrades to non-production database environments.
• Attends product specification meetings with project team members to determine the scope and limitations of various projects.
• Ensures data integrity in applications.
• Implements approved database technologies.
• Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related area, with three (3) to five (5) years of database administration experience required. One (1) to two (2) years of previous management experience is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server in the following areas: database design; SQL Server architecture; T-SQL programming; performance tuning; stored procedure, function and trigger design and coding; index implementation and maintenance; database backup and recovery; SQL Server log shipping; SQL Server replication
• Knowledge of SQL Server Analysis Services and Reporting Services
• Plan and develop systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the department.
• Understanding of n-tier application designs
• Ability to analyze and document business processes and problems. Develop solutions to enhance efficiencies.
• Supervise staff in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Mathematical skills including basic algebra and statistics
• The ability to extrapolate database schema to meet the business needs of the application
• Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently
• Strong PC skills including thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to any given situation

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), and/or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) a plus.
