We are looking for a dynamic and creative visionary who will provide strategic leadership to our Public Engagement Unit, in creating brand awareness and enhancing the profile/visibility of World Vision Lanka (WVL), through the effective engagement of key stakeholders in advocating for the well- being of children in line with our values and ethos.

Group Director-Public Engagement

Location: Based in Colombo with travel to the field offices

Job Profile:

The Public Engagement Unit brings together several key support functions, and includes policy and advocacy, external relations and communications. The Group Director Public Engagement — World Vision Lanka (WVL) will strategically lead, develop and direct the implementation of World Vision Lanka’s Public Engagement strategy and objectives. The role will be responsible for leading the Public Engagement team to ensure timely and effective execution of media outreach that result in increased visibility and awareness of the VVVL brand name and public image.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership in raising the profile of WV Lanka as a leading NGO in raising concerns on child focused issues through policy advocacy. It will also work hand in hand with field operations to raise awareness in facilitating grassroots campaign against unjust practices and structures
• Support the National Director to effectively engage WVL with local stakeholders including the Media, Govt line ministries, corporates and civil society and influence key stake holders on larger public issues that impact children
• Provide guidance, support, coaching and mentoring to Department Heads and staff (Advocacy, Communications & Marketing) and ensure a culture of collaboration and communication is maintained.
• Demonstrated commitment to World Vision values and philosophy, and capacity to engage with the broader community in living these values.

Required Education, Experience and Skills Include:

• Extensive work/life experience in Sri Lanka and deep knowledge of her culture and history.
• Bachelors Degree and/or professional qualification in Corporate Communications, Development Communications, Journalism, Marketing or any Social Science related degree or MBA
• Minimum five years’ experience in a senior leadership role with a proven track record of achieving quality results preferably in the development arena
• Knowledge of Advocacy theory and practice ideally at community level and practical experience in local level advocacy
• Compelling communicator and a catalyst for change, able to build relationships and influence key players and policy makers on issues impacting children, through the creative use of public engagement strategies.
• Experience working with local media networks with a thorough knowledge of the rapidly changing communications landscape
• Excellent communications skills in English both verbal and written and competency in the use of the MS Office Suite
• Knowledge of local languages – Sinhala/Tamil will be an advantage
