Emerge implements four programs: the
Beads-to-Business, Life Skills, Mentorship and Reintegration programs. The programs equip teenage girls with skills and resources for their futures, using comprehensive curricula that emphasize leadership, life skills, and business knowledge, while simultaneously generating savings through jewelry design.
Position Description:

The Business Development Officer position is in charge of overseeing Emerge Lanka’s business strategy (including income generation, jewelry sales, and fundraising) and building Emerge Lanka’s capacity to be financially independent
from Emerge Global within 2 years.
Individuals applying for this position should be a strong strategic thinker, a comfortable negotiator and networker, have the ability to think both creatively and critically, and be able to identify new opportunities for resources for
Emerge. They should be comfortable with numbers. persistent and detail oriented, resourceful, and excellent at building and maintaining relationships. They should be comfortable working in both English and Sinhala, and managing relationships in person as well as by email a11d Skype. Above all else. they should have a deep conunitment to
serving otu‘ target population. a belief in the work of Emerge Lanka as an organization, and a desire to learn.
Skills required:
Experience in strategic planning and business development, sales, supply chain management, product development, relationship management, marketing, event planning and logistics management.
Proficiency in excel is essential.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include. though are not limited to:
Oversee Business Development and Systems
Strategy
– Draft, execute, track, and continuously update a business strategy for Emerge Lanka Foundation, including strategies for selling all Emerge jewelry (with the majority sold locally) as well as integrating other income-generating programs.
Such as the Emerge Kids Party program
– Identify and assess the feasibility of new sales channels including, though not limited to, an Agent program in Sri Lanka and a partnership with a tourism company
– Assess the feasibility of developing a Wholesale line of jewelry with older participants and develop oneif itwould be helpful in furthering Emerge’s vision Revisit the Emerge jewelry pricing structure to ensure that Emerge participants are able to generate a substantial amount of savings while also enabling Emerge Lanka to become increasingly financially sustainable off of sales
– Actively and regularly analyze sales feedback to improve strategy and ensure feedback is well documented for long-term institutional memory
– Identify other income-generating opporttmities for Emerge Lanka. helping it to decrease its dependency on donations
Jewelry Sales
– Oversee all Emerge jewelry sales, both locally and abroad, engaging other Emerge staff and volunteers as needed
– Ensure that all jewelry sales targets are met in a timely and consistent manner
– Recruit, train and supervise volunteers and supporters as needed to help with sales Identify, develop and maintain relationships with stores and distributors to sell Emerge products
– Coordinate with Emerge distributors (volunteers, agents and stores) overseas
– Actively maintain relationships with volunteers and distributors of Emerge products, including them in the Emerge mission and story, soliciting their feedback, and negotiating challenges as they arise
– Develop and track monthly sales targets in line with the business strategy and ensure that targets are being met
– Refine jewehy sales tracking documents as needed to support financial analysis Ensure all systems. protocols. contracts and training materials are well documented and organized
– Proactively identify ways to improve sales, products and packaging, soliciting and incorporating feedback as needed
