Roles and Responsibilities

You will deliver 1-to-1 maths tutoring to British students (Grade 3-6) using our online classroom. Before you start, you will receive three weeks of initial training, designed and delivered by our British team of education experts. They will also provide personalised ongoing support to help you develop your English communication skills and teaching expertise.

Requirements

• Possess or are working towards a professional/academic qualification
• Able to work Mon to Fri (No Sat/Sun) UK shift time (1pm to 10pm – evening transport provided up to 25km)
• Confident English communications skills (verbal and written)
• Secure understanding of basic maths numeracy concepts (Grades 1-6)
• IT literate
• Able to provide a Police Clearance Certificate
• One-year minimum commitment required

How will you be successful?

To succeed you don’t need experience, instead we look to see how you match with our values and whether you meet our requirements. Here are tips from existing tutors…

• It’s teaching, not lecturing, try not to bore your students
• Check that your student understands what you are teaching
• Ask open ended questions and don’t answer them yourself
• Your students should be talking more than you
• Always celebrate and praise effort even if they get it wrong, but don’t overpraise
• Remember your students will be nervous, they may not feel confident in Maths at all
• Watch Western TV programmes and films with subtitles turned on to improve your English communication skills
• Develop emotional intelligence to help you better understand the mind-set of your students
